Ross King

Ross King received his PhD in physics from Stanford University in 1994. He moved to Vienna that year and began working at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 2002 he started at the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna where he now is thematic coordinator of the research field Data Science and leader of the Digital Insight Lab research group. His research interests focus on the management, discovery, analysis, and long-term preservation of digital multimedia assets.

Ross was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Open Preservation Foundation from 2013 to 2017 and still serves as a board member of that organisation, which is dedicated to sustaining technologies for the long-term management of digital cultural heritage. He has coordinated numerous national and international research projects.

Presently he is the coordinator of the H2020 project TITANIUM, which concerns the analysis of virtual currency transactions and the use of virtual currencies in darknet markets, and the national KIRAS project FLORIDA, which concerns the large-scale forensic analysis of video files using machine learning approaches. Ross is also one of the leading experts in Blockchain technologies in Austria, and has given numerous invited talks on this topic over the past year.
