Media – the second skin!?
An artistic intervention by Birgit and Peter Kainz
Our next exhibition will feature the artist duo Birgit und Peter Kainz, two socially critical digital photographers and image scientists. Birgit and Peter Kainz’ works always center around the word HUMAN(E), they stand for freedom and equality and invite the audience to free thinking. Due to the spread of COVID-19, we were forced to postpone the vernissage which was originally planned for May. This however had the effect that the duo created specific pieces during lockdown, dealing with the pandemic in their own way, adding a new dimension and intensity to their work and the exhibition at the hub.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Newspapers and their articles, television programs and their reports or entertainment programs, social media and their own news dynamics, surround us constantly. They are, one might say, like a second skin that covers us. Maybe we put them on ourselves, because, just like a special brand of clothing or shoes make an impression, it is also chic to be always up to date with information and news. Following the news keeps us busy, knowing more than others, gives us a supposed advantage, gives us protection, for whatever purpose… Nine mannequins, whose “skin” is covered exclusively in newspaper articles, will be featured in the exhibition. Staying true to the word “HUMAN”, the intervention will give visitors the opportunity to connect with the artists as well as the CSH in an interactive way. Two ribbons, one blue, one red, will be running through the rooms of the hub and waiting to be filled with statements, newspaper reports, photos and other artefacts. The artists will hang drawings on the ribbons, some of which were made during the lockdown. On the opening evening, a panel of referees from the fields of science, media and migration and development will discuss the impact of the Corona crisis from their respective perspectives.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the Hub has decided to move its art program into the virtual sphere. Please therefore note that the vernissage will only take place virtually. Live streaming details will be shared here in due course. For details on the virtual vernissage, please click here
We cordially invite anyone interested in viewing the exhibition to visit the CSH. Guided tours in small groups (max. 5 people) can be arranged on Thursdays during the exhibition duration (October 2 – December 30, 2020). Please email office@csh.ac.at to book your slot. Please note that a mask has to be worn when visiting the CSH.
