On October 16, 2018, the CSH Board approved the Danube University Krems (DUK) as the newest member of the Complexity Science Hub Vienna.

Viktoria Weber, vice-rector for research at the DUK, has been elected to the CSH Board.

The Danube University Krems, a lovely town in Lower Austria, is the only public university for continuing education in German-speaking countries. When it started in 1995, a competence center for scientific specialization was created that focused on the pressing challenges of our times. Three faculties with 15 departments are engaged in teaching and research.

“We are happy to see the Hub flourish,” says CSH president Stefan Thurner. “With the Danube University, we have gained a dedicated new partner to further promote complexity science in Austria.”

Friedrich Faulhammer, rector of the DUK, sees the membership as a sign of a continuos development, since the two institutions have been in exchange since quite some time.

In particular, Gerald Steiner, Head of Department for Knowledge and Communication Management and Dean of Faculty of Business and Globalization at the DUK, has been a regular visitor at the Hub since it first opened its doors. “Our common objective is to build up new competences in complexity science & sustainable resource management,” Stefan says.

“The Danube University Krems has a focus on handling the grand challenges of our times,” Friedrich Faulhammer adds. “Using Big Data is a future-oriented field and the contribution of science to solve complex problems and risky developments.”
