With Julia Sklar, scientists will learn what to expect when they get an interview request from a journalist, and how to prepare for that conversation.
To start, she will talk about:
- What it means to be “on the record” versus “on background,” and how to request either of these from a journalist
- How reporting styles differ, and what timelines you can expect among news articles, features, profiles, and Q&As
- What fact-checking is, how it works, and what your involvement will be
- DOs and DON’Ts for talking to the media
This will be followed by an open training session. Likewise, there will be time for questions.
