This online talk will be presented by Mykola Fedorovych Shulga, General Director of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics & Technology” (KIPT), on Tuesday, July 12 at 3 pm via Zoom.
Title: Kharkiv Institute of Physics & Technology: survival during the war
If you would like to attend, please send us an Email.
Abstract:
Prof. Shulga will share his experience of surviving and carrying out academic research in times of war. The KIPT is the principal institute in development of the nuclear power engineering in Ukraine. That’s where world-famous physics schools lead by L. Landau, A. Akhiezer, I. Lifshitz, E. Lifshitz, D. Volkov and others arose. The institute has its own nuclear reactor, stellarator, and linear particle accelerator. Already on March 6, 2022, the Institute was fired by Russian troops from multiple rocket launchers “Grad”. The destruction is being continued. Currently, the scale of damages is much larger than those made by German Nazis during the Second World War. Nearly half of the Institute staff became refugees or migrants.
