It’s all about Big Data, automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), that much is clear! The goal is to use digitization to make cities more livable, efficient, secure, and environmentally friendly. But how can that happen? And what will be our role as individuals in the city of the future?
On Monday, September 11th, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 5:20 PM, the Complexity Science Hub Vienna and ETH Zurich will be hosting a Panel Discussion titled “Smart Cities – Digital Zoo or Participatory Society?”.
The event will feature Doris Schnepf, the managing director of the Green4Cities competence center, which focuses on the development and design of sustainable living spaces, including notable projects like the IKEA at Vienna’s Westbahnhof train station. Also joining the panel is Jose Jacob Kalayil, the head of the Future ICT Forum, which will be presenting insights into information and communication technology opportunities for building sustainable cities. Rounding out the panel is ETH researcher Gerhard Schmitt, who spearheaded the “Cooling Singapore” project, aimed at devising sustainable strategies for effectively cooling urban areas, among other pioneering initiatives.
