Join us for a lunch talk by Tamer Khraisha on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Hub in Room 101.
Technological innovation is a complex problem in the sense that it involves a multiplicity of solutions, independence between the elements of a solution, and uncertainty and inefficiency in the process of searching for a solution. In many contexts, the technological innovation problem is complicated by the presence of other technological innovators facing the same problem and searching in the same landscape of solutions. I call this innovation paradigm “Collective Technological Innovation”. To understand the dynamics of collective technological innovation, I will present a model to explain the evolution of technological innovations as a collective search on technological fitness landscapes, where by collective I mean a network of firms. The talk will focus mainly on the role of network structure in influencing the goodness (fitness) of the final solutions found by the community of searching firms.
