Peter Turchin named fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

CSH TEAM LEADER RECEIVES ONE OF THE AAAS’S HIGHEST HONORS

We are very pleased to announce Peter Turchin has been elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society.

The class of 2021 AAAS Fellows includes 564 scientists, engineers, and innovators from around the world who are being recognized for “their scientifically and socially distinguished achievements”, according to an announcement by the AAAS.

“I am deeply honored to be elected AAAS fellow. Sincere gratitude to my colleagues and particularly the Seshat Databank project, and for support from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Connecticut and more recently at the Complexity Science Hub”, says Peter.

At the Hub, Peter leads a team working on Social Complexity and Collapse. He also founded and co-leads the Seshat: Global History Databank, a very ambitious project that brings together prehistoric and archaeological data from all around the world to identify, among other things, what drives periods of political turmoil and how societies emerge from them.

Peter is also professor at the University of Connecticut.

Congratulations from all of us!
