Johannes Stangl, PhD Candidate at the Complexity Science Hub

Johannes Stangl has been a PhD candidate at the Complexity Science Hub since February 2022. Johannes received a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in computational science from the University of Vienna. He joined CSH to write his master’s thesis which is titled “Identifying Decarbonization Leverage Points in Supply Network Measures that Quantify Systemic Relevance”. In his thesis, he compares measures of socio-economic relevance of companies in supply networks with their CO2 emissions in order to prioritize decarbonization efforts.

Johannes is a founding member of the Fridays For Future movement in Vienna and passionate about working on evidence based solutions for the climate crisis. His research interests therefore focus on understanding and modelling the green transition in supply chains, energy and other socio-economic systems.

To complement his technical natural science background he is pursuing a degree in philosophy at the University of Vienna.
