Silvia Miksch

Silvia Miksch is University Professor and head of the research Center for Visual Analytics Science and Technology (CVAST), Institute of Software Technology & Interactive Systems, TU Wien. From 2006 to 2010 she was University Professor and head of the Department of Information and Knowledge Engineering at Danube University Krems, Austria. In April 2010 she established the awarded Laura Bassi Centre of Expertise “CVAST – Center for Visual Analytics Science and Technology ” funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research, and Economy. She worked at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI), was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Knowledge Systems Laboratory at Stanford University CA, USA, was Guest Professor at the Department of Simulation and Graphics, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

Silvia has served on various program committees of international scientific conferences and was, for example, conference paper co-chair of the IEEE Conferences on Visual Analytics Science and Technology (IEEE VAST 2010 and 2011) at VisWeek and Eurographics/IEEE Conference on Visualization (EuroVis 2012). She reviewed for several scientific journals, belong/belonged to the editorial board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM-J, Elsevier), AI Communications (AICOM, IOS Press), IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG, IEEE CS), Computer Graphics Forum (CGF, Wiley), and Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI, Elsevier).

Silvia acts in various strategic and guiding committees, such as the VAST steering committee and the VIS Executive Committee (VEC).
Her main research interests are Visualization/Visual Analytics (particularly Focus+Context and Interaction) and Time.
